Nepal
Nepal is geographically located at the foot of the Himalaya Mountains: above India and underneath Tibet – China. Nepal is a country that is elongated sideways. The north is located high-up in the mountains and the south is located low and runs down through the Terrai to the lowlands of India. Meltwater from the perennial snow of the Himalaya drips, rages and meanders through this mighty landscape.
Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal and numbers approximately 1.5 million inhabitants. The city is located in a valley on the Vishnumati river at 1350 metres above sea level. Kathmandu is known for its Buddhist and Hindu temples and palaces, most of which date back to the 17th century.
Most of the palaces are located around Durbar Square and the largest temple is the Buddhanath in the Buddha district. The Kathmandu valley holds seven monuments of the world heritage list.
